Towards Affective Interfaces for Neural Signal Users

چکیده
Neural signal users are people with complete paralysis operating computer-based equipment through direct braincomputer interface technologies. In this paper, we discuss the importance of utilizing affective information in interfaces for these people, to include both applying user affect and displaying machine affect. Such information can be invaluable in low-level input adaptation (e.g., interpretation of neural signals), as well as in developing proactive predictive interfaces. We will also show how existing prototypes of environmental controls and communications applications could be augmented by inclusion of affective information.

Multi-electrode arrays technology for the non-invasive recording of neural signals: a review article
The recording of electrophysiological activities of brain neurons in the last half-century has been considered as one of the effective tools for the development of neuroscience. One of the techniques for recording the activity of nerve cells is the multi-electrode arrays (MEAs). Microelectrode arrays (MEAs) are usually employed to record electrical signals from electrogenic cells like neurons o...
متن کاملDetecting and Predicting Muscle Fatigue during Typing By SEMG Signal Processing and Artificial Neural Networks
Introduction: Repetitive strain injuries are one of the most prevalent problems in occupational diseases. Repetition, vibration and bad postures of the extremities are physical risk factors related to work that can cause chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Repetitive work on a computer with low level contraction requires the posture to be maintained for a long time, which can cause muscle fatigu...
متن کاملAffective Interaction with a Virtual Character Through an fNIRS Brain-Computer Interface
Affective brain-computer interfaces (BCI) harness Neuroscience knowledge to develop affective interaction from first principles. In this article, we explore affective engagement with a virtual agent through Neurofeedback (NF). We report an experiment where subjects engage with a virtual agent by expressing positive attitudes towards her under a NF paradigm. We use for affective input the asymme...

Recently, many groups (see Zander and Kothe. Towards passive brain–computer interfaces: applying brain–computer interface technology to human–machine systems in general. J. Neural Eng., 8, 2011) have worked toward expanding brain-computer interface (BCI) systems to include not only active control, but also passive mental state monitoring to enhance humancomputer interaction (HCI). Many studies ...
متن کاملElectroencephalography Amplitude Modulation Analysis for Automated Affective Tagging of Music Video Clips
The quantity of music content is rapidly increasing and automated affective tagging of music video clips can enable the development of intelligent retrieval, music recommendation, automatic playlist generators, and music browsing interfaces tuned to the users' current desires, preferences, or affective states. To achieve this goal, the field of affective computing has emerged, in particular the...
